Three Keystone College psychology faculty members have been selected to present at the National Institute for the Teaching of Psychology in January 2015.

Assistant Professor William Chase, Psy.D., Assistant Professor Kristel Gallagher, Ph.D., and Associate Professor Steven R. Howell, Ph.D., will offer presentations on innovative teaching techniques.

Dr. Chase’s presentation, “Evolutionary Apocalypse: Darwin vs. Zombies” will focus on a classroom exercise regarding adaptations and survival in an imagined post-apocalyptic world.

Dr. Gallagher will present a session on an original assignment she created for a for a social psychology course, “Taking Social Psychology to the Streets – The Humans of Northeast Pennsylvania Project.” The assignment helped students become aware of the everyday diversity that exists around them and sought to reduce stereotypes toward unfamiliar or misunderstood people.

Dr. Howell will present a new technique for teaching personality measurement, “Classroom Demonstration of Personality Assessment using the Big Five Personality Mini Markers.” Keystone junior psychology major Kelsey Edelmann served as co-author and helped designed the test for use in the assignment.

All three presentations will be given at the 37th annual National Institute of Psychology in St. Petersburg Beach, Fla., in January 2015.
