POSITION: Woodlands Campus Student Assistant

JOB PURPOSE:
Trail Maintenance Worker for Woodlands Campus. Responsible for overall maintenance of the trails on the Woodlands campus and assistance as needed with the maple sugar operation, the apiary (bees), and environmental educational programming, including guided hikes and school groups. Duties include mowing, weed whacking, clearing trails of fallen branches, sawing, maintaining way finding markers, litter cleanup, repair of damaged interpretive signs, gathering wood for use in Sugar Shack, staining or painting, assisting with development of new trail signage, and other duties as directed. Assistance with care of building reptile ambassador animals, which includes feeding, tank cleaning, socialization/enrichment, handling at events/programs, and any other building duties assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Students may not work more than 10 hours per week
• Once a schedule has been agreed upon, it is the responsibility of the student employee to:
• Arrive at work on time, ready to perform position-related activities.
• Notify the supervisor in a timely manner if he or she is unable to arrive at work on time.
• Be considerate and reliable. Student workers represent Keystone College and must maintain the same standards expected of all faculty and staff.
• Dress appropriately. In positions requiring regular contact with the public, attire conveys a degree of professionalism.
• Perform work to the best of her/his ability and act in the best interests of the College.
• Refrain from all personal activities, such as reading, phone calls, social networking, or class work or club activities during hours of employment; and refrain from using office equipment for personal reasons.
REQUIREMENTS:
Excellent work ethic, the ability to collaborate well with others, and take direction are a must. While working on the Woodland Campus, you will likely encounter members of the public. The ideal candidate will have a friendly, helpful disposition and conduct themselves in a professional manner that will support our excellent relationship with the surrounding communities.
This position requires working outdoors in all types of weather, the ability to lift 50 pounds, frequent stooping, lifting, reaching, bending, carrying, and repetitive motion.
Personal Protective Equipment required includes sturdy work gloves and sturdy work boots. Workers should follow clothing recommendations for protection from ticks.
Experience working in similar outdoor jobs and the ability to operate a chainsaw is a plus.
The individual will work independently on assigned projects.
