Lexi Myers

My work involves both illustration and graphic design. It involves organic subjects such as figures, animals, scenery, and plants. It defines my connection to the natural world around me, and my deep appreciation for it.

I work mainly in watercolor, pen and ink, and graphite. I am drawn to the control of ink combined with the looseness of watercolor. These mediums complement the sensitive quality of my work. The transparent quality of the paint enhances the luminous, dream-like elements in my paintings. My work also combines traditional techniques with a graphic style, creating a contrast of delicacy and boldness.

My recent work explores the relationship between humans and animals. It also involves an in depth study of these subjects and their environments, through which my knowledge and appreciation grows. Humans and animals have a long evolutionary history due to agriculture, domestication, and research. This bond has evolved throughout time, as these elements from our environment are interwoven deeply into our culture. These animals and natural elements are prevalent in our history, art, literature, and ways of life. They shape the way that we view and create these things. Even if we have not directly bonded with them, we learn from their habits.

I think of my work as a window into the vastness and beauty of our environment. My work references the history, anatomy, and lifestyles of certain animals.  During the production and my process, I discover new areas of interest, or new techniques, which then inspires another work.
