Keystone student presents research at the Wildlife Society national conference

Dec 4, 2023

Keystone College graduate student and alumna Summer Price ’23 successfully presented her research on the human impact of wildlife in south-central Pennsylvania at the Wildlife Society’s national conference in Louisville, Ky., on November 5–9.

Summer collected her data from West Shore Wildlife Center, a rehabilitation center that cares for sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife in Etters, Pa. She examined animals’ different reasons for admission to the center and analyzed the mortality and survival rates for mammals, reptiles, and birds using statistical software.  Her findings suggest that domestic animal attacks were the leading cause of death and show the impact domestic pets can have on wildlife.

Summer received her bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology from Keystone College in 2023 and is currently enrolled in the college’s master of wildlife biology program. She plans to expand upon this topic as part of her thesis as a master’s student.
