Keystone College Press will host a reception celebrating the release of the new children’s book, Springtime Birds in My Backyard on Tuesday, March 20 at 4 p.m. in Evans Hall in Hibbard Campus Center. The reception is free of charge and open to the public. Parents are invited to bring their children.

Written by Keystone Professor Dr. Karen Yarrish and illustrated by Keystone Professor David Porter, Springtime Birds in My Backyard uses rhythm and rhyme to describe the sights and sounds of commonly found birds in North America. Dr. Yarrish is a business professor and faculty coordinator for adult and online learning and Mr. Porter is a professor of fine arts.

“I’ve really enjoyed the entire creative process while writing this book. Working with such an incredibly talented illustrator as David Porter made it all the more satisfying,” Dr. Yarrish said. “Our hope is that it provides a meaning and enjoyable experience for children and their parents.”

“This has been an especially rewarding project for me,” said Mr. Porter, a highly recognized illustrator locally and nationwide.  “Working with my Keystone College colleague Dr. Karen Yarrish to produce a book that will be read and enjoyed by children for years to come is very gratifying.”

Springtime Birds in My Backyard is available for pre-order at most online bookstores.

Introduced in 2016, Keystone College Press publishes scholarly works written by members of Keystone’s faculty, as well as faculty members from regional colleges and universities.
