Keystone College will host the presentation, “Heroin Hits Home” on Monday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Theatre in Brooks.
The event will feature Lackawanna County District Attorney Shane Scanlon and Joe Kane from Clearbook Treatment Centers.
Both speakers will discuss the widespread increase of heroin addiction in Northeastern Pennsylvania. According to statistics provided by Lackawanna County, someone dies from a heroin overdose every three days in Lackawanna County and 75 percent of heroin addicts begin their addiction with prescription opioids. In 2015, there were 69 heroin overdose deaths in Lackawanna County and Pennsylvania leads the nation in drug overdose deaths among young men.
Both speakers will offer insights and suggestions on ways to combat this ongoing problem which is affecting every level of society across the region, state, and nation. The program is free and open to the public.
