Seven students from an introductory Public Health class traveled to Chicago for a week of hands-on learning. As part of the LEARN Chicago program, students explored the various public health services found in an urban setting and also studied the cultural, historical, gender, and racial issues impacting public health.
During the trip, students had the opportunity to meet the Deputy Director of Public Health for the city of Chicago and also volunteered in a variety of settings including a YMCA daycare center. Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics faculty members who joined the students on the trip included Vicki Stanavitch, Dr. Dorothy Anthony, Dr. Joseph Falcone, and Jason Koval.
