Keystone Conducts 142nd Commencement

Keystone College celebrated its 142nd commencement during ceremonies on the college’s campus in La Plume on Saturday, May 18. Degrees were conferred upon 315 students.

The baseball team captured their fifth straight CSAC championship!

The Giants who are currently ranked twelfth in the country and have won 14 consecutive games, improved to 33-7 on the season and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament!

Keystone Innovation Award 2013

The Keystone Innovation Award was presented to Alison Emmons for her undergraduate research: A New Way of Looking at Geology Using Gigapan Technology to Capture High-Resolution Panoramas in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The Sleeping Bag Project

Members of the Keystone community participated in the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service by assembling sleeping bags from recycled fabrics in partnership with My Brother’s Keeper Quilt Group and its “Sleeping Bag Project.” The sleeping bags will be donated to Hurricane Sandy victims

Keystone participates in Snowflakes for Sandy Hook

The Keystone College community are hoping to bring some normalcy to the lives of the surviving children of Sandy Hook Elementary School by participating in the Snowflakes for Sandy Hook initiative.

Santa For Seniors Gift Wrapping Party

Students from the Keystone S.M.A.R.T. Club celebrated the true spirit of the holidays on December 12, by wrapping gifts to be distributed to local senior citizens.

Glass Ornament Sale

Keystone’s talented glass students are hard at work preparing for their holiday glass ornament sale! The sale will be Thurs., Dec. 13 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., third floor hallway of Hibbard. Prices start at $10.

During Winterfest, the Keystone community comes together to enjoy the holiday season with a variety of festivities and community projects.

National Philanthropy Day 2012

Keystone students who participated in National Philanthropy Day gather at Alumni Hall after taking part in a number of events that paid tribute to the many philanthropic efforts being made in the Keystone community. Events included a Keystone Amazing Race, free hot cocoa, philanthropy facts candy bar giveaway, a traditional Thanksgiving feast in the Student Restaurant, a community service event, and more!

Glass Pumpkin Sale

Once again the Keystone College community will have the chance to purchase artwork created by our talented glass students! Glass pumpkins will be for sale on the 3rd floor Hibbard Campus Center on Thursday, November 15, from 11am-3pm.  Proceeds benefit Keystone's glass program.

Who will be the 2012 Homecoming King and Queen?

The nominations for 2012 Homecoming Court are in! Shawon Gibbons, Duncan Lunsford, Donte Briscoe, Anthony Trovato, Mark Musumeci, Laci Watts, Ericka Miller, Olivia Ruffin, Kodi Lakowitz, and Da’Quana Faulkner have been nominated. Voting to determine the King and Queen will take place October 2 and 4, from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Stop by the Giants' Grill to vote.

Record Attendance at First Commuter Luncheon

Eighty students turned out to share free lunch and conversation at the first Commuter Appreciation Luncheon of the semester, in the newly renovated Evans Hall. This is a monthly event for all Keystone College commuter students.

Compass Program 2012

Studying Global Health Puerto Rico

A group of more than 25 Keystone College students, faculty, and staff recently visited Puerto Rico studying global health, diversity, and Spanish as part of a global learning course. While on the trip, students delivered a TV donated by Walmart through its Bloomsburg, Pa. and Puerto Rico stores to a Luquillo, Puerto Rico senior center.

Student Neil Elms was presented with the Keystone Innovation Award at the Undergraduate Research and Creativity Celebration on April 25, 2012.

Administrator of the Year 2012

Congratulations to Sue Musheno, Senior Program Coordinator for the Education Division, who was named the 2012 Administrator of the Year. Selected by her peers for this award, Sue (left in photo) was presented with the award by Mari Flynn, chair of Administrative Council. Way to go, Sue!

2012 Keystone Innovation Award

Congratulations to Neil Elms, winner of the 2012 Keystone Innovation Award. Presented annually at the Spring Undergraduate Research and Creativity Celebration reception, the award recognizes a student whose project offers an innovative approach to a research problem. Neil’s research focused on a fully interactive, cognitive enhancement center.

Congratulations to all of the award winners announced at All-College Honors Convocation! Highlights of the event included the announcement of Professor Dr. Sherry Strain as the Margaretta Belin Chamberlin Chair for Distinguished Faculty Service Award recipient and Kati Kameroski, art education major, as the Outstanding Graduate.

Earth Week

Keystone College will celebrate Earth Week April 11-25 with a variety of activities to help participants realize the importance of environmental sustainability and responsibility.

Senior art exhibitions begin April 6

24 graduating seniors from Keystone College’s four-year art program will host a dual gallery exhibit featuring their work on Friday, April 6 from 6-9 p.m., at both AFA Gallery and Artworks Gallery & Studio in Scranton, PA.

The Clothesline Project

A visual display to honor survivors of violence. Stop at the Student Success Center to paint a shirt and anonymously dedicate it to friends and family who are survivors. Shirts will be displayed on campus the week of April 16. 

Art Education students receive Scholarship Award

It was a clean sweep for Keystone College art education students Danielle Cady, Kati Kameroski, and Carolyn Walker. These students all received the prestigious Clyde McGeary Scholarship Award presented by the Pennsylvania Art Education Association (PAEA).

Sleeping Bag Project

Diversity Services  participated in a service project in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Keystone students assembled sleeping bags in conjunction with the Hop Bottom, Pa.-based My Brother’s Keeper Quilt Group to help the homeless in NYC.

“Believe” the NASPA Region II Conference

Laura Hughes, AmeriCorps VISTA and Wendy Kramer, Director of Commuter Life/Act 101 both presented at the NASPA Region II Conference, “Believe” held in Baltimore, MD June 4-7, 2011. NASPA is the Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education and is the leading voice for student affairs administration, policy, and practice. Laura took the lead in presenting information regarding our Undergraduate College Access Networks program and Wendy presented our KC VETS program.

Giants in the semi-finals at the College World Series

Congratulations to the men’s baseball team as they finished the season with a 38-12 record after falling to Marietta College in the semi-finals of the College World Series.

Dusting for prints

Students use magnetic fluorescent fingerprint powders to enhance latent (hidden) fingerprints and view them with a Ultraviolet light at the Forensics Science Symposium that was held on campus May 7, 2011.

Basketball Met Comedy

The Harlem Wizards played a friendly game against Keystone faculty, staff and students on Tues. April 12 in the Gambal Athletic Center. Members of the Keystone College senior class organized the event to raise funds for a senior class gift to the college. The group hopes to create a student lounge area in Harris Hall.
