Navigate your first year, one step at a time.
First Year Activities
In the first year, you will begin to explore possibilities, clarify your interests, and identify initial pathways or plans for success.
Academic
- Attend the President’s Opening Convocation
- Download digital textbooks
- Learn to use Moodle
- Know your schedule and instructors’ names
- Learn to avoid plagiarism: pass the tutorial or enroll in a workshop
- Visit the Learning Center to receive writing or research support for your English 1110 or 1125 classes
- Actively participate in your First Year Seminar (FYS Class)*
*The First-Year Seminar and experience enables students to develop the skills necessary for academic, personal, and career success, and a portfolio/resume designed to give them a competitive edge in the job market.
Advising Services
- Download the academic map for your major
- Know your advisor’s name
- Schedule a meeting with your advisor to discuss expectations and how your interests, goals, and values fit into your major
- Schedule another meeting with your advisor to prepare for next semester’s course registration
Career Services and Promise Requirements
Career Services:
Keystone Promise
- Complete the FOCUS Career Assessment Program
- Complete the Keystone Promise Career Plan and have it reviewed
- Attend the Fall or Spring Career, Internship and Grad School Fair
- Login to Handshake and update your account
Student Life
- Attend campus events
- Become an active member of a club and/or organization on campus
- Participate in intramural sports
- Make friends
- Get involved in activities like band, service learning, student government, or athletics
- Take college-sponsored trips
