Faculty members from two Northeastern Pennsylvania colleges recently presented research on alternatives to nursing home care at two national conferences.
Keystone College Professor Heather Shanks-McElroy, Ph.D., and Penn State University-Worthington Scranton Senior Instructor Janet Melnick, Ph.D., presented their findings at the National Adult Day Services Conference in Phoenix, Ariz., and at the Aging and Society Conference in Washington, D.C. The professors will also present at the Aging in America conference in March 2016.
Assisted by Keystone College student Sara Dunay and Penn State University-Worthington Scranton graduate Geraldine Ferrer, the research focused on alternatives to nursing homes available in rural Pennsylvania and the need for home and community-based care.
The research was sponsored by a grant from the Center for Rural Pennsylvania, a bipartisan, bicameral legislative agency that serves as a resource for rural policy within the Pennsylvania General Assembly.
