Keystone College and the Factoryville community will come together to celebrate Christy Mathewson Day on Saturday, September 26. This will be the 20th consecutive year the two communities have celebrated the life and accomplishments of the Baseball Hall of Fame legend and Factoryville native.

The day will feature a variety of events lasting from early morning through evening at Keystone College and Joint Municipal Park in Factoryville, including a fireworks display at dusk.

This year’s event will feature family activities including Saturday’s traditional “Big Six” 6-K run/walk and one mile fun run; the Christy Mathewson Day Parade, and activities at Joint Municipal Park.

As an added feature, there will be a baseball history symposium at Keystone from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. in Evans Hall in Hibbard Campus Center. Keystone faculty member Dr. Brad Congelio will present “The American Way: Baseball at the 1936 Nazi Olympics” at 1:30 p.m. Baseball author and historian Dr. Larry Gerlach of the University of Utah will present “Baseball: The National Pastime?” beginning at 2 p.m. Dr. Gerlach, and John McGee, a local attorney and founder of Northeast Baseball, Inc., will wrap up the symposium with a panel discussion at 2:30 p.m.

Other highlights of this year’s activities include:

7:30 a.m. Registration at Hibbard Campus Center, Keystone College, for one mile fun run/walk and “Big 6K run/walk.

8:30 a.m. One-Mile fun-run begins on Keystone College Green

9 a.m. “Big 6” run/walk begins on Keystone College Green

11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Brunch for baseball symposium attendees

2:30 p.m. Baseball panel discussion

5 p.m. Christy Mathewson Day Parade starts at Keystone College

6 p.m. Parade ends at Joint Municipal Park, Factoryville followed by award presentations and evening events featuring food and games.
