Teacher Candidate Mentor – Part-time (Hazleton & Nanticoke)
Purpose: The LEEP Mentor is the primary interface between post-baccalaureate teacher candidates completing a competency-based teacher certification program and the districts in which they are employed. The LEEP Mentor is responsible for weekly classroom visits, weekly virtual cohort meetings, and ongoing assessment of the required teacher competencies. This position is slated to begin in August 2024 in conjunction with the Keystone Fall 2024 semester.
Responsibilities:
-Supervise a caseload of teacher candidates seeking public school teacher certification.
-Assist teacher candidates with the planning, demonstration, and tracking of all required PA Department of Education teacher competencies.
-Guide teacher candidates through a rigorous competency-based teacher certification program.
-Assess candidates’ evidence, artifacts, and in-person teaching as related to competency attainment.
-Conduct in-person observations of each candidate on caseload one time per week.
-Facilitate a weekly virtual class with caseload of teacher candidates that addresses PDE competencies and goals.
-Maintain records of candidate progress including: competency attainment, attendance, observation logs, TEAM meeting logs, etc.
-Provide immediate feedback to questions, concerns, and evidence submissions by candidates.
-Upload mentoring documentation to Moodle as required.
-Communicate regularly with Keystone LEEP Advisors.
-Perform related duties as assigned by Program Supervisor.
-Develop relationships with school districts.
Experience:
-Teaching experience required; PK-12 and Graduate Degree preferred
-Outstanding student-centered, interpersonal communication skills.
-Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
-Ability to solve problems quickly, completely, and independently.
-Proficient in digital literacy.
-Strong commitment to small college undergraduate education.
Environment:
-Duties are normally performed during the school day at the candidates’ on-site district placements
-Evidence and artifact feedback and assessment is on-going throughout the program
-One three-hour evening meeting, outside of traditional school hours, is required per week
-Travel to candidate placement sites is required (currently seeking mentor for Hazleton and Nanticoke)
