POSITION: Director of Development and Planned Giving
REPORTS TO: Vice President of Institutional Advancement

JOB PURPOSE:

Works collaboratively with a team of development professionals in supporting the College’s advancement program by securing gift commitments for the annual fund, scholarships, planned giving, and capital purposes. Cultivates, sustains, and establishes relationships with alumni, friends, and families and supports potential donors to meet philanthropic goals and needs of the College. Supports all other essential aspects of the institutional advancement programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works closely with the VP and IA Team to manage corporate and individual giving and special projects and events;
  • Cultivates prospects in support of institution-wide initiatives (fall and spring appeals) and priorities (capital campaigns) with attention to detail and accountability;
  • Participates in all aspects of the gift cycle, including:
    • Initiating contacts with potential leadership and donors;
    • Cultivating new donor bases;
    • Working collaboratively with other development and advancement staff (alumni, scholarships, grants), and other College representatives to cultivate and solicit donors for college-wide priorities;
    • Stewarding potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure in consultation with other development staff and leadership;
    • Strategically identifying donors ready to give;
    • Linking giving opportunities to donor proclivities;
    • Maintaining stewardship contacts with donors;
    • Adhering to the highest ethical standards;
    • Demonstrating empathetic dispositions and perseverance;
    • Reflecting an optimistic and positive attitude;
    • Conveying sensitivity to the needs of the donors;
    • Balancing multiple ongoing processes;
    • Prioritizing between competing demands;
    • Shifting strategies based on donor responses.
  • Collaborates with the Alumni Relations function at the College by engaging alumni and friends as partners in supporting Keystone College by:
    • Identifying and cultivating a prospect pool of graduates and other key constituencies;
    • Participating in all aspects of the Alumni gift cycle;
    • Collaborating with Alumni Relations and College Relations in producing print publications that inform and entertain alumni and encourage alumni support;
    • Monitoring and updating Alumni Relations pages of the Keystone College website in conjunction with the Alumni function and Communications.
  • Collaborates with the Scholarship function at the College by engaging scholarship donors and planning College events.

Performs additional related duties as assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience, Competencies and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in major gift solicitation and volunteer management
  • Related experience in sales, marketing, volunteer solicitation, external communications, or development
  • Knowledge of financial planning techniques a plus
  • Availability to travel is required
  • High ethical standards and strong collaboration skills are mandatory
  • Evening and weekend hours are required
