POSITION: Major Gifts Officer

REPORTS TO: Vice President of Institutional Advancement & Strategic Initiatives

JOB PURPOSE: Works collaboratively with other development professionals in supporting the College’s advancement program by securing major gift commitments for the annual fund and capital purposes.  Cultivates, sustains, and establishes relationships with alumni, friends, and parents and works with potential donors to meet philanthropic goals and needs of the College.  Supports other aspects of the institutional advancement program.


  • Major Gifts:
    • Manages a portfolio of primary prospects in support of institution-wide initiatives and priorities. Participates in all aspects of the gift cycle, including:
      • Initiating contacts with potential leadership and major gift donors
      • Works collaboratively with other development and advancement staff, and other College representatives to cultivate and solicit donors for college-wide priorities.
      • Moving potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure in consultation with other development staff and leadership
      • Making solicitations when appropriate
      • Maintaining stewardship contacts with donors
      • Adhering to the highest ethical standards
      • Demonstrating empathetic disposition and perseverance
      • Reflecting optimistic and positive attitude
  • Alumni Relations:
    • Manages the Alumni Relations function at the college by engaging alumni and friends as partners in supporting Keystone College by:
      • Identifying and cultivating a prospect pool of graduates and other key constituencies
      • Participating in all aspects of the Alumni gift cycle
      • Designing and executing alumni programs in support of the College’s institutional advancement program
      • Planning, coordinating, promoting, and attending alumni-sponsored events
      • Serving as the convener of the Board of Directors of the National Alumni Association, meeting their organizational needs and working with officers to encourage alumni support of the Association’s goals
      • Providing a menu of services of interest to alumni such as on-campus facilities passes, merchant and service discounts, and insurance programs
      • Developing a class correspondent and volunteer program to benefit the College and the alumni at-large and to provide alumni with multiple opportunities for the lifelong engagement
      • Collaborating with College Relations in producing print publications that inform and entertain alumni and encourage alumni support; continuously maintain and update the Alumni Relations pages of the Keystone College website


Performs additional related duties as assigned by supervisor


 Experience, Competencies and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in major gift solicitation and volunteer management
  • Related experience in sales, marketing, volunteer solicitation, external communications, or development
  • Knowledge of financial planning techniques a plus
  • Availability to travel is required
  • High ethical standards and strong collaboration skills are mandatory
  • Evening and weekend hours are required

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and confidential information
  • Extensive travel and evening and weekend work is routine
