POSITION: Director of Campus Safety

REPORTS TO: Vice President for Finance and Administration

Purpose:Provides a safe and secure environment to meet the educational objectives of Keystone College

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans and supervises campus safety functions
  • Provides a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors as well as the physical property of Keystone College by directing all aspects of the Campus Safety Department
  • Assists the Dean of Students in the implementation of policies, procedures, and practices that mitigate the potential of serious crime on campus by assuring that the department complies with federal and state guidelines
  • Provides for professional development of team members within the department for maximum effectiveness, performance, and service to the College
  • Assists in preparation of Campus Crime Report by compiling monthly, quarterly and yearly campus crime statistics to comply with federal and state laws
  • Serves as the College’s liaison with law enforcement and community leaders, and serves as lead investigator of all sensitive crimes if they occur within the jurisdictional boundaries of the campus
  • Regulates campus parking, ensures maximum adherence to parking regulations, and monitors committees which assist in the regulation of parking and traffic rules
  • Develops and maintains cost efficient budget for the department
  • Trains department employees in aspects of campus security and law enforcement. Improves the effectiveness and efficiency of the Campus Safety Department through technology, training, and teamwork
  • Assists the Dean of Students, Safety Committee, and Campus Response Team
  • Provides community alerts for continuing safety/crime concerns in the campus community by presenting programs for campus community in areas of crime prevention, sexual assault, personal safety, etc.
  • Assists the Dean of Students in the judicial process as presented in the Student Code of Conduct handbook
  • Serves as substitute for Campus Safety Officers as needed

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience, Competencies and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work or Public Administration required
  • Five to ten years supervisory experience in law enforcement, campus or campus/public safety

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Familiarity with issues facing adolescents and young adults
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills to work with a variety of constituencies
  • Superior organizational skills to plan, assign and direct work of the department
  • Must have an understanding of compliance issues
  • Must be able to walk, climb, bend, lift and carry 50 to 75 pounds
  • Qualified applicants must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Background check clearances including Act 34 and Act 151 required
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR or Basic EMT a plus
