POSITION: Students in Training to Work with At-Risk Children and Families

REPORTS TO: Summer Camp Director 

JOB PURPOSE:  Students in Training to work with at-risk children and families at summer camp.           


  • Education students should have completed all but student teaching; non-education student must be able to demonstrate ability in the aforementioned domains.
  • Individuals passionate about optimally facilitating the development of young children in the context of family and school.
  • Knowledgeable about child development and education.
  • Ability to supervise children by sight and sound.
  • Availability to attend off-campus professional development seminars.
  • Availability to work in a summer camp program July 17 through August 9.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum for age, individual, and culture of children served.


  • Background check clearances including Act 151 PA Child Abuse History Clearance, Act 34 PA State Police Criminal Record, Act 114 Federal Criminal History and Fingerprint Clearances and Health/Tuberculosis Screening.
    • Attend all required training’s, including but not limited to:
        • Child Abuse Training
        • Strengthening Relationships with Children, Family and Colleagues: Professional Development Presentation
      • Participate in job shadowing with Sister Ann Walsh, Friends of the Poor;
    • Observe the child care program at the Oppenheim Family Children’s Center;
    • Attend the Open House Recruitment for Valley View and Jackson Housing Projects and Lackawanna Trail.
    • Participate in planning STEM activities, which will be implemented in the summer camp program.
