Keystone College’s Thomas G. Cupillari ’60 Astronomical Observatory will host a viewing of the lunar eclipse on Sunday, September 27.
The event will be the last of four consecutive lunar eclipses visible in the United States. The Harvest Moon, which is the closest, and therefore the largest full moon of the year, will travel through the umbra – the darkest part of the Earth’s shadow – and be completely covered.
This event can be seen by anyone who has an open view of the sky and it not necessary to use a telescope. However, for those wishing to visit the Observatory, the event will be free of charge and hosted in conjunction with the Lackawanna Astronomical Society. The schedule is:
Partial umbral eclipse begins: 9:07 p.m.
Total eclipse begins: 10:11 p.m.
Greatest eclipse: 10:47 p.m.
Total eclipse ends: 11:23 p.m.
Partial eclipse ends: 12:27 a.m. on September 28
