Washington, D.C. – Keystone College President Dr. David L. Coppola recently greeted M. Denise Dennis, president and CEO of the Dennis Farm Charitable Land Trust, at the opening of the Perkins-Dennis Family Exhibit at the Smithsonian Museum of American History, Washington, D.C.
The exhibit which depicts the Perkins-Dennis family stories is part of the Smithsonian Museum exhibition, “Through the African Lens: Selections from the Permanent Collection.” The historic 153-acre Dennis Farm in Hop Bottom, Susquehanna County, was originally settled by the family of Prince Perkins, free African Americans who moved to Northeastern Pennsylvania from Connecticut in 1793. Their descendants, the Perkins-Dennis family, have retained ownership of the property to the present day.
Keystone is an educational partner with the Perkins-Dennis Family Farm in Hop Bottom and hosted the Dennis Farm Symposium and Field Tour in 2014.
