Keystone College students are hoping members of the college community and local residents can help pick the area’s best cupcakes and raise money to help fight cancer at the same time.

Students in Associate Professor Brenda Lidy’s events planning class are conducting the “Cupcake Challenge” on Tuesday, Feb. 3 from 5 -7 p.m. in Evans Hall in Hibbard Campus Center. The event was originally planned for December, 2014 but was rescheduled due to inclement weather.

Keystone students who wish to participate can donate $4 in advance and $5 at the door and members of the general public can donate $10 to sample and vote for the best cupcakes submitted by several local entrants. Proceeds will benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Tickets for the event can be purchased at the door or in advance by e-mailing brenda.lidy@keystone.edu.

Participating bakeries include: Keystone College culinary arts students, Sodexo, Pittston Bakery, PersoNellized Bakery in Carbondale, Creative Cookies by Jenny in Clarks Summit, Duffy’s in Clarks Summit, Delightful Bakers in Tunkhannock, Marty’s Market in Mehsoppen, Keystone Konfections in Tunkhannock, and Wegman’s in Dickson City. Any bakeries wishing to participate may contact brenda.lidy@keystone.edu or call (570) 945-8334.

“We’re really looking forward to hosting this event on Feb. 3 and we hope to get a great turnout from the Keystone campus and the local community as we strive to fight pancreatic cancer,” said Professor Lidy.
