Training Information for the Unemployed and Dislocated Worker

TAA and WIA

The Federal Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program and Workforce Investment Act (WIA) are occupational training programs funded by federal and state agencies for people who have lost their jobs. The goal of these assistance programs is to help the unemployed find a new position in a field that offers promising career opportunities.

Dislocated workers should work with their local CareerLink office to determine eligibility and gain referral to Keystone College. Once the dislocated worker is determined eligible, he or she must go through the College’s admission and financial aid process.

To find out more about these programs, please contact your local Pennsylvania CareerLink office.

TAA WIA Story

“For me, it was a no-brainer to take part in this program and I would do it again in a heartbeat.”

Steven Sidloski, a Dickson City resident had been a graphic designer for more than 20 years when he found out in 2008 that his job at a local publishing company was being sent overseas. It looked like the only way he could obtain a similar paying position would be to move out of the area. Then, he heard about the Federal Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program.

Steven is studying for a bachelor’s degree in information technology. He has three years to complete his degree requirements and then hopes to combine his skills as a graphic designer with his information technology skills to find a job which will offer a steady salary and upward career growth.
