The Keystone Players
The Keystone Players theater group produce one major theatre production each semester. Plays range from the classics of the theatre, to contemporary plays, to experimental pieces.
We invite everyone to audition, regardless of experience. Participation in the annual Keystone Players’ theater productions is open to all students, alumni, administrators, faculty, and staff, and we often invite community residents (including children) to audition for large-cast shows.
About the Auditions
All auditions are cold readings, which means that everyone reads from the script, rather than preparing in advance. To keep the playing field even, we do not provide advance copies of scripts. Following general auditions, the director may invite you to attend a “call-back,” after which time the director will make final cast selections.
We realize that scheduling can present problems. If you cannot attend one of the scheduled auditions, you may make an appointment with the director to audition at a mutually convenient time.
Choosing the Cast
The director looks for actors whose appearance, voice, manner, age, and gender are appropriate for each role. We also look for high energy, and the ability to project (be heard), take direction, and work pleasantly with others.
You will receive a call from the director if you are selected for a part. In addition, a cast list will be posted in Brooks Theatre.
Can’t act but would like to participate?
Theatre is a collaborative activity, and without the folks who work behind the scenes, we would have no show. While some production jobs demand special skills, we are willing to train newcomers who want to learn. In addition, there are many jobs that require no prior experience.
Production staff assignments include: stage manager, set design and construction, props, costume design and coordination, lighting design and operation, sound design and operation, stage crew, makeup, publicity, programs, house manager, ushers, and box office.
