"Looking Forward to a Bright Future"
As an athlete, Rebecca Drumheller has a keen understanding of the toll competitive sports can take on the body and the mind. As a psychology major with plans to attend graduate school, she has a strong desire to learn everything she can about that particular topic.
That’s why Rebecca, a Keystone senior and a member of the Keystone cross country and track teams, chose the topic, “Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Between Athletes and Non-Athletes” for her project for the 2012 Keystone Spring Undergraduate Research and Creativity Celebration.”
“In my research, I investigated whether self-reported PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) symptoms would be more common in individuals who are physically active or individuals who are not physically active.”
Rebecca hopes her ongoing research will benefit her as she pursues a career as a psychologist or counselor.
A member of the Keystone class of 2013, Rebecca has a bright future ahead of her. Besides her own skills and dedication, she realizes that her Keystone education, particular psychology professors such as Dr. Steven Howell, have helped her immensely.
“I’m not sure exactly how my life will unfold once I graduate from Keystone and attend graduate school. I know I love helping people, particularly kids, and I want that to be a part of my career. I’m sure my Keystone education is preparing me to meet whatever challenges I’ll face done the road. I’m really looking forward to the rest of my life.”
