La Plume, Pa. – Keystone College students recently collected much-needed supplies and over $400 in cash for soldiers overseas through “Operation Defend Our Freedom!" “Operation Defend Our Freedom!" was initiated by Davina Dunlap and Candy Garrison of GasSearch Drilling Services, Montrose, a division of Cabot Oil and Gas.
Dr. Sonji Lee's business ethics class became involved with “Operation Defend Our Freedom!” for a service-learning project. Students from Dr. Lee’s class partnered with the Keystone College Armed Forces Club and the College’s Twenty-One Plus Students Club to collect items for soldiers overseas and conduct a donation raffle. The students made flyers, placed red and blue donation bags around campus, published announcements in the College's daily e-mail newsletter and on social media, and worked with GasSearch Drilling to coordinate a pick-up time on campus.
After conducting the drive for three weeks, students gathered around the Veterans’ Memorial in front of Harris Hall with their donations. Ms. Dunlap and Ms. Garrison said they were surprised to see how many donations were collected in such a short time period.
"It's heartwarming to see how much help we are getting," said Ms. Garrison.
