Keystone to Participate in Sustainability Day

La Plume – Keystone College will join colleges and universities across the nation in celebrating Sustainability Day on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011.

The day represents a time to focus and reflect on the success of the sustainability movement in higher education and help educational institutions learn from each other as they continue to innovate and improve sustainability programs and practices.

As part of the day’s activities, the Keystone Ecology Club, along with the college’s Sustainability Committee, will conduct a “Caught Green Handed” environmental awareness campaign throughout the day. If a member of the college’s Green Team “catches” a member of the Keystone community doing something positive for the environment, (recycling, using reusable lunch take-out containers, refilling a reusable water bottle, carpooling, etc.), the environmentally responsible person will receive a prize for making an ecologically friendly choice.

Also, an environmental pledge station will be set up outside the student dining room in Hibbard Campus Center. Keystone students, faculty, and staff will be encouraged to pledge one thing they can do to create a more sustainable environment. Pledges will be entered in a drawing for prizes. First place will be a basket of environmentally friendly items which will be on display at the pledge table.
