La Plume - Keystone College has received another prestigious national ranking for being one of the most environmentally responsible institutions of higher learning in the nation.

Sierra Magazine, published by the Sierra Club, a national environmental organization, has ranked Keystone in its list of the nation’s top “cool” schools because of its commitment to creating and preserving a green environment.

Keystone ranked 107th in the nationwide list, just ahead of Baldwin-Wallace College, the University of the District of Columbia, and Pepperdine University. Finishing just ahead of Keystone was Washington and Lee University, Kenyon College, and Centre College.

Colleges across the country were considered for the honor and judged on categories such as energy, efficiency, food, academics, and other related categories. This marks the second national award Keystone has received for its environmental stewardship. For the past two years, the college has been ranked by the Princeton Review as one of the top green colleges in the nation.

“Once again, Keystone College is extremely proud to be named as one of the most environmentally responsible colleges in the nation, this time by Sierra Magazine,” said Keystone College President Dr. Edward G. Boehm, Jr. “At Keystone, commitment to the environment is a long-standing way of life that we value each and every day. We strive to be responsible stewards of our environment and to provide students with an education that prepares them to become future leaders in the preservation of our natural resources. This is an honor to be shared and valued by the entire Keystone College community.”

Sierra Club is America’s oldest and one of the most influential grass roots environmental organizations. Sierra Magazine reaches a nationwide audience from all walks of life.

In addition to Sierra Magazine and Princeton Review, Keystone was recently ranked in the top tier of Regional Colleges in the North by U.S. News and World Report. The college has also been listed as one of the nation’s best schools for U.S. military members and veterans by G.I. Jobs Magazine and Advanced Military Education magazine. Keystone was also named a College of Distinction by Student Horizons, Inc., a national company which provides important information about higher education to high school students and their parents.
