Keystone Ranks First for Graduates with Least Amount of Debt

La Plume, Pa.For the seventh consecutive year, Keystone College has been ranked as one of the nation’s best colleges in U.S. News and World Report. In another key ranking, Keystone finished first in its category for graduating students with the least amount of debt.

Keystone finished in the top tier, ranked 43rd in the North in the “Regional Colleges” category in the magazine’s annual “Best Colleges” edition. Keystone scored particularly well in the category which lists small class sizes. The magazine reported that 74 percent of Keystone’s classes have less than 20 students, one of the top rankings of all schools in the Best Regional Colleges category.

Keystone was also listed as the Top Regional College in the North for the average amount of financial debt for graduates. Keystone graduates had an average debt of $8,675. That amount is almost half the debt as Cooper Union, the second ranked school in the same category, which had an annual amount of graduate debt of $15,864 per graduate. The magazine noted that the “average amount of debt” refers to the cumulative amount borrowed by students who incurred debt, not an average for all students.

U.S. News and World Report categorizes regional colleges as those that “focus almost entirely on the undergraduate experience and offer a broad range of programs in the liberal arts.” A select group of schools included in the category were grouped according to regions of the country.

“We are extremely proud that Keystone College has been listed in U.S. News and World Report as one of the nation’s best colleges for the seventh consecutive year,” said Keystone College President Dr. David Coppola. “The ranking is a tribute to the tremendous dedication and ongoing accomplishments of our students, faculty, and staff. We are especially proud of our top ranking for graduating students with the least amount of debt. This ranking is a clear indication of our commitment to students and their families to provide a top quality education at a reasonable expense.”

In addition to the U.S. News and World Report rankings, Keystone has also achieved national prominence in several other publications. It has been ranked as one of the nation’s top schools for commitment to the environment by the Princeton Review and Sierra Magazine and as one of the best schools in the nation for soldiers and veterans by G.I. Jobs magazine and Advanced Military Education magazine.

Founded in 1868, Keystone College is an independent, co-educational, liberal arts college that provides distinctive undergraduate programs grounded in a competitive learning environment that fosters integrity, curiosity, and civility.

Enrolling just under 1,700 students, Keystone offers 32 associate and baccalaureate degree programs in business, communications, education, fine arts, natural science and mathematics, and social sciences.

Located 15 minutes from Scranton, Pa. and two hours from New York City and Philadelphia, Keystone is known for small class sizes and individual attention focused on student success through internships, research, and community involvement.
