La Plume – Keystone College and the Factoryville community will come together in August to celebrate one of the summer’s most anticipated events. The 18th annual Christy Mathewson Days will take place Friday, August 9 and Saturday, August 10. The festivities are held each year to honor Keystone alumnus, Hall of Fame baseball pitcher, and Factoryville native Christy Mathewson.

The celebration features a variety of events lasting from early morning through evening at Keystone College and Christy Mathewson Park in Factoryville, bringing together members of the college and local communities for a festive summertime celebration.  

This year’s event will feature “Matty: An Evening with Christy Mathewson,” a one-man play written and performed by California-based actor and playwright Eddie Frierson on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Saturday’s traditional “Big Six” 6-K run/walk and fun run will also be a central part of the weekend’s festivities.    

Highlights of this year’s activities include: 

Friday, August 9

Noon          Christy Mathewson Memorabilia Collection opens in Gambal Athletic Center Lobby and  will remain on display until 10 p.m.

7:30 p.m.   Eddie Frierson performs the one-act play, “Matty: An Evening with Christy Mathewson” in Keystone’s Theatre in Brooks. Tickets can be purchased for $3 for adults,  $2 for children under 12. Please call (570) 945-8169 for tickets.  

9 p.m.       Ice cream social in Gambal Gymnasium Lobby.       

Saturday, August 10

7 a.m.      Christy Mathewson Collection opens for the day in Gambal Athletic Center Lobby at Keystone College and will remain on display until 5 p.m. 

7:15 a.m. Registration for “The Big 6” run/walk and one-mile fun run on the Keystone College Green.

8 a.m.      One-Mile fun-run begins on College Green

8:30 a.m. “Big 6” Run/Walk begins on College Green 

9 a.m.       Awards presentation to race winners

9-10 a.m.  Breakfast for race participants, courtesy of Keystone College

5 p.m.       Christy Mathewson Day Parade starts at Keystone College

6 p.m.       Parade ends at Lackawanna Trail Elementary Center followed by evening events  featuring food and games at Christy Mathewson Park
