Tara Gwilliam

Keystone is my second home.

Major: Education

Class: 2012

Keystone College education major Tara Gwilliam loves working with disabled people and likes seeing the spark when they learn something they have tried so hard to discover.

A member of the Class of 2012 from Harvey's Lake, Pa., Tara feels that same excitement about her career at Keystone. "I love the family atmosphere. Everyone truly cares about each other and tries to help you succeed and have the best college experience possible."

Tara is making her mark in and out of the classroom. A Monsignor Andrew McGowan Scholarship recipient and a Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship recipient, Tara served as the Keystone Student Senate president and volunteers with the Special Olympics. She hopes to eventually open a group home for adults with disabilities.

"Keystone has become my second home. I've learned a great deal about the needs of students with disabilities and how to educate them. My favorite class is 'Learning through Literature.' I learned a lot about children's books and the benefits of specific kinds of books. The education faculty at Keystone has a vast amount of experience. They have all been educators, superintendents and principals."

Tara realizes that to be successful in any endeavor, you have to willing to accept new challenges. "Never write off any opportunity. You never know when you can create an amazing story."
