Description:
Priit Vesilind was a Senior Writer and Expeditions Editor at National Geographic magazine for nearly thirty years. His assignments took him around the world and miles deep in the ocean, covering such diverse stories as Brazil, Albania, Eat Berlin, the Monsoon world, and cave diving in the Yucatan. Born in Estonia, Vesilind and his family emigrated to the United States in 1949. A graduate of Colgate University and Syracuse's Newhouse School of Communications, an officer in the U.S. Navy, he specialized in Cold-War subjects in Eastern Europe and in underwater exploration, working often with ocean pioneer Robert Ballard.

In his presentation, Vesilind will discuss his career at National Geographic, as well as the role of such cultural media in the vital flow of information to an educated nation.
