Elementary Education major supports our troops
Kellina Yarrish, an elementary education major, is someone who always likes to take things a bit further and aim one step higher. In keeping with her character, rather than just observing a moment of silence on September 11 to honor our country, she encouraged the field hockey team, for which she is an assistant coach, to adopt a soldier. Along with their personal well wishes and words of encouragement, the team also collected and sent a large care package of items.
Now, Kellina is again ramping her commitment up a notch by encouraging members of the campus community to support military personnel by adopting a soldier as a pen-pal. A pen-pal can be particularly beneficial to soldiers who commonly spend long periods of time isolated from their friends, family, and loved ones, often in dangerous situations and less-than-ideal comfort. Along with letters, basic care packages can also be sent to make a soldier's day-to-day life easier.
