About the Program

Early Childhood Education (Pre K-4) Special Education (Pre K-8)

The need for teachers who have a foundation in early childhood and special education has expanded over the last decade. The Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education / Special Education prepares professionals who value the unique characteristics of children with a range of cognitive, physical, and emotional abilities.

The major targets the creation of individual, age, linguistic, physical, social, and culturally appropriate educational environments that support and nurture positive developmental outcomes. ECE/Special Education certification prepares individuals to teach in a variety of Pre-K to eighth grade settings while learning to work cooperatively with families and other professionals.

Graduates prepared with an ECE/Special Education degree know how to plan and implement instruction and demonstrate effective classroom adaptations. Numerous opportunities to practice skills in authentic settings and, observe in various environments are provided. Participation in pre-student teaching experiences in classes Pre-K to eighth grade and a fourteen-week student teaching placement are program hallmarks.
